ORLANDO, Fla. - Since Mel Gibson released the movie, "The Passion of the Christ," there has been more interest in faith based films.

Recent faith based movies like "Facing the giants and Fireproof," got the attention of Hollywood and where great success.

The soon to be released heart warming movie, "Letters to God," is looking like another faith based movie hit.

On Thursday Dec. 3, David Nixon, local director and producer gave a presentation in Valencia, West Campus.

In his presentation he talked about his upcoming movie, "Letters to God," which is going to be release on April 9, 2010.

"Letters to God" is based on a true strory about an eight year old boy, who is suffering from cancer but even with this obstacle in his life he still has the drive to write letters to God asking him to help the people around him. The idea of the movie came from a true story that the father wrote about his son after he died.

"This movie was made because cancer touches everybody," said Nixon, "we did it to put out a ray of hope."

The father was present during the whole filming of the movie in Winter Gardens, Florida.

"Filming these types of movies is not overwhelming but it is heartwarming," said Nixon.

David Nixon is from Sydney, Australia and he has a movie studios in Orlando, Florida. He has produced two feature films, "Facing the Giants" and "Fireproof". He has also produced commercials for Subway restaurants and Walt Disney Resorts.

Compare and Contrast the book and the film versions of "The Road." Which did you like better? Why?

I personally liked the book better. I believe the book is better than the movie because the book in my opionion makes more sense. There is an order to the book that in the movie there isn't. You can understand what is happening to the father and the son more in the book than in the movie. In the movie there is a lot of events occuring at the different times. The different house scences appear too quick in the movie, whereas in the book they appear later in the story. I also did not like the amount of flashbacks that they gave in the movie. The first half of the movie is made of mostly flashbacks of his wife and at the end of the flashbacks, the movie does not even show what happens to her, she just walks away from the family. In the book the wife comes up in about only two chapters of the book and they tells us that she kills herself. I know it was movie and that it can't come out exactly like the book but I would of liked a little more order or sequence of events.

Better Future

ORLANDO, Fla. - "Discipline, accountability and goals are the three things people look for when they come to our company," said Shaun Spaid, a financial advisor for Ameriprise Financial Services.

On Nov. 14, Ameriprise Financial Services gave a presentation on "New Perspectives for Your Financial Future," in the Southwest Branch of the Orange County Library System.

During the presentation, Spaid spoke about how to find a safe place for your savings, determine the best options for your 401 (k), identify new strategies to save for retirement, choose a college savings plan or finance a college education, and when to take social security.

"You have to ask yourself what problems might occur in the future?" said Spaid, "and how are you planning for them now?"

This presentation was done to provide educational help on how to properly manage your future financially, it was not a persuasive presentation to get more costumers for their financial services company, it was more of an informative presentation of how to better your future.

"These presentations are done to give back to the communtiy as an educational standpoint,"said Spaid, "if they want to follow up they are welcomed."

Most of the people that attended the presention came for financial advice and to find out how to better manage their future.

"I attended this presentation because I needed to know some information about how to handle my future financially," Said Nora Hall, "so I came to look for help to the one place where I know I can find credible information, the library."

Others came to the presentation because they had to.

What percentage of your televison viewing is spent watching BROADCAST NETWORKS- ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC and WB- versus CABLE/SATELLITE CHANNELS? What are your favorite types of programing on broadcast? What are your favorite types of programming on cable/satellite?
I spent most of my television viewing time watching cable/ satellite channels. I like watching sports, so most of the time I am on the ESPN channels. I watch both ESPN and ESPN 2. When I am not watching ESPN, I am either on the MTV channel watching shows like "America's Best Dance Crew" or "The Real Word" or in the Comedy Central channel watching shows like "Futurama". I only watch BroadCast Networks if there is a big sports event on one of those networks. Like if there is a good sunday night football game, I might turn the channel to NBC, or if I want to see a sunday afternoon Jacksonville Jaguar game I will put the channel on CBS or on saturday nights I might change the channel to ABC to watch the best college football game of the week.
My favorite types of programing on Broadcast are sports events, from MLB on Fox to Sunday Night Football on NBC to sunday afternoon football games on CBS and Fox to saturday night College Footbal on ABC to the NBA on ABC.
My favorite type of programing on cable/satallite would have to be SportsCenter on ESPN. I watch Sport Center everyday. I also watch other programing from ESPN, like ESPN First Take, E60, Around the horn and PTI. Besides ESPN I also watch the networks Sun Sports and FSN Florida because these are the networks that give me the Orlando Magic Games and the Tampa Bay Rays games. Besides the sports networks I also watch the networks TNT, TBS and USA for the movies that they give on the weekends.

Local Talent

By Wilnifred Santiago

Orlando, FL- Premier movie screenings are usually the hottest ticket in town. Especially if it is a local movie premier screening.

That was the case on Wednesday night in the Plaza Cinema Cafe in downtown Orlando, where people came to see the first out of two nights of the screening of the local horrow thiller The Sacred.

"The movie was very good, I enjoyed it and I especially liked the cinematographic of the movie." said Monica Travers.

Before the showing of the movie, the director Jose Zambrano Cassella and the producer Sharon Reed were outside in the lobby of the theater greeting and talking to the guest about the movie and answering any questions the guest might have about the movie.

According to Sharon the movie was made here in Central Florida, because it is where there production team is located and also because both the director and her also live here. They wanted a swampy setting for the movie so they chose to film the movie in Wekiva Falls Resort in Sorrento, FL.

This is Jose Zambrano Cassella sixth movie and all his previous movies including this one have been horrow films.

Making this production a horrow film "it just came out like that" said Mr. Zambrano Cassella.

But Ms. Reed had a different explanition of why this film was made a horrow film.

"It is the easiest genre to sell domestically and foreign," said Sharon

Jose Zambrano Cassella has been a Cinematographer for over 16 years and has directed six films all in the past five years. Sharon Reed has been part of Camera and Electric department for six movies and has also been an actress for one those movies. This is her first participation as a writer for a movie.

The movie is about a group of university students that travel to a swamp land of Florida to complete their thesis project on Native American Folklore. But when they got there they found more than they were bargining for. The location were they traveled to and are staying seems to be curse. The native indians used those sacred lands to trial criminals and unwated members of the tribe. These trials were accomblish by using the power of the sacred lands. The land have the power to bring "sins" back to life. So the students have to fight for their life against their past sins with nowhere to run.

There will be another Sacred movie screening tomorrow at seven thirty in the Plaza Cinema Cafe in Downtown Orlando.

Go Green!

By Wilnifred Santiago

Orlando, FL- Go Green! This is the message that was introduced during a presentation on Tuesday in the Orlando Public Library.

The purpose of this event was to learn about financial incentives for green design in Central Florida.

The event was hosted by AIA Orlando, a Chapter of the American Institute of Architects and the presenters were representatives from the Orange County Government, City of Orlando , OUC, Progress Energy, and the US Green Building Council.

During his presentation, Cameron Saulsby the OUC Conservation Coordinator talked about the Residential Incentive programs, the Commercial Incentive Progams and many other financial incentive programs that OUC offers. He stated that in his opinion the insulation to the home is the most sufficient Recidential Incentive program that they offer.

Different people in the crowd had mixed emotions about the financial incentives programs that were explained during this event.

"It is good that the county stepped up, I dont know how they are going to found the incentives, but good," said Mike, engineer.

"It is a cultural shift to get people to do it, to become part of a new culture," said Jefrrey, architect.

But Cameron disagreed with Jeffrey.

"A lot of the programs picked up in summer becuase of the high bills, more people started calling about how to lower their bills and the incentives were offered and people started to try them," Said Cameron Saulby of OUC.

More events like this will be offered by AIA Orlando through out October. October marks Orlando's 2nd Annual Architecture Month.
